My job requires me to play a lot of games, and part of “playing a lot of games” is “downloading an astronomical amount of game data every month.”
So today's about the most annoying thing I can think of: Steam's download servers appear to be having issues. I don't know how widespread or for how long, but there's somethingweirdgoingon.
CoolROM.com's game information and ROM download page for Toukidenshou - Angel Eyes (VER. 960614) (MAME). CoolROM.com's game information and ROM (ISO) download page for Touki Denshou - Angel Eyes (Japan) (Sony Playstation).
And it depends on the area you configure your download locations on steam. But it just doesn't make sense. I previously had a connection speed of 50Mbps and I would get Steam speeds ranging from about 5.5MB/s up to 6.3MB/s. The download page says that it only has.1mb left to download, but then the download stops and says 'Suspended'. At this point no matter what I do it won't finish that.1mb left. Basically, the downloads get stuck in a pause-unpause loop, where no data is ever downloaded. The downloads just keep starting and stopping. I had my Tesla Effect download sitting at 13.5GB, and then it refused to budge.
- Windows 10 and steam stop start download issue The steam client for downloading PC games has stopped working correctly where it used to download without issue about two builds ago. Downloads used to be continuous but now stop and start intermittently.
- If you go under the Steam menu to Settings, then Download settings, you should be able to switch to a more exotic locale. For instance, I am currently downloading the rest of Tesla Effect from Sweden.
- Today when trying to install CSGO it got stuck at 100% without finishing the download. I've played CSGO on this computer and even recently installed a bunch of Steam games that worked fine, but for some reason CSGO isnt working.
Luckily, there are some things you can try. First of all, try adding more games to the download queue. I won't pretend to know Valve's server infrastructure, but according to a few forum posts you can trick the service into downloading the rest of the game by adding more games to the backlog. One user recommends adding a free game like Dota 2 or Team Fortress 2 to your queue if you don't own a second game on your account.
The other, more commonly-suggested fix is to swap your Steam Region. As far as anyone can tell, it's only some of the servers in the United States having problems currently. If you go under the Steam menu to Settings, then Download settings, you should be able to switch to a more exotic locale. For instance, I am currently downloading the rest of Tesla Effect from Sweden.
Steam Download Won't Stop
And that's it. Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon, but until then you might as well give these temporary fixes a shot. Best of luck.
